2014-09-02 09:46

On August 28, CCK Executive Director Rev. Hong Jae-cheol and Rev. Lee Young-hoon of Yoido Full Gospel Church, who is running unopposed to succeed Hong in the post, held a press conference at the Korea Christian Ecumenical Building in Jongnogu, Seoul, and announced a joint statement with seven points:

- CCK’s faith stance will be maintained.

- Rev. Hong will retire on September 16 when the new executive director is inaugurated.

- CCK will lead in reformation of the Korean church.

- Former CCK members will be requested to rejoin.

- CCK will oppose wrong theologies within WCC such as religious pluralism, communism, secularization, and homosexuality.

- CCK will hold prayer meetings for the president and public officers, and will lead in building up the Republic of Korea.

- CCK will stand in opposition to the Korean Church Commission on Faith and Order (KCFO) of the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK), the Korean Orthodox Church, and the Catholic Church in Korea.

Approximately 200 former and current CCK board members and media reporters gathered for the press conference. Executive Director Hong announced his retirement abruptly on August 12, a year and five months before the end of his term. The provisional general assembly to elect the next executive director will take place on September 2 in the grand auditorium on the third floor of the Korea Christian Ecumenical Building, with 350 delegates holding the right to vote.
